asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the estimated number of unemployed teachers.
Mrs. Shirley Williams
The number of unemployed people registered by the Department of Employment as seeking employment as school teachers in England and Wales in September was 7,187. In addition, 1,984 so registered were seeking posts in higher or further education.
