asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total estimated expenditure by tourists in Scotland on all visits for each of the past five years; and what percentage this represented of the comparable British figures.

The Scottish Tourist Board's estimates of total expenditure in Scotland by all tourists including expenditure by Scots, visitors from other parts of Great Britain and from overseas are as follows:—

These figures, which are very approximate and subject to a measure of sampling error, account for approximately 11 per cent. of all tourist expenditure within Great Britain in these years. Figures for 1971 were collected on a different basis and are not comparable. Statistical information on tourism in Scotland is given annually in the reports of the Scottish Tourist Board.
