Mr. Sproat
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many prosecutions in the last 12 months have been on grounds of citizens of the Irish Republic claiming supplementary and other benefits on account of bogus family members; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Orme
My Department does not keep records of the country of origin of either benefit claimants or persons against whom proceedings are instituted.
Mr. Sproat
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish the percentage of immigrants from the Republic of Ireland who, according to a recent special survey conducted by his Department's personnel signed on for supplementary and other benefits within approximately one week of arriving in Liverpool.
Mr. Orme
I am not aware of such a survey.
