These amounts represent actual capital expenditure financed either by revenue contributions or by borrowing, for both of which central Government assistance is given through rate support grant. The grant is paid to local authorities in respect of a wide range of services and is not attributable to specific items of expenditure. Separate figures of educational expenditure in Glasgow in 1975–76 are not available, since Strathclyde Regional Council became responsible for the provision of education as a result of the reform of local government.
