asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he intends to inform the House of the future dates for the May Day Bank Holiday, in the light of the importance of an early announcement to industry, business and those responsible for many sporting fixtures.

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment, to my hon. Friend the Member for Keighley (Mr. Cryer) on 27th July 1976—[Vol. 916, 161–2]—in which he announced that the May Day Bank Holiday to be introduced in 1978 will be information is as follows:taken on 1st May in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. I hope to be able to make a further announcement in the near future about the arrangements in 1979 and subsequent years.In answer to a Question from my right hon. Friend the Member for Glasgow, Pollok (Mr. White) on 27th January—[Vol. 924, 732–7]—my hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland announced that in Scotland the last Monday in May will be designated as the additional Bank holiday in 1978 and subsequent years.
