Mr. George Grant
asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons have made applications under the job release scheme in (a)Great Britain, (b)the Northern Region and (c)Mid-Northumberland local employment areas, respectively, at the latest date for which figures are available; and how many of these were from the unemployment registers.

The number of applications received by 25th February was 10,065; this includes a small number of reapplications. A breakdown of applications received is not available, but a breakdown of application approved on 23rd February was as follows:
