asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money was spent on overseas travel by his Department and by the Sports Council for Scotland, respectively, during the latest year for which figures are available; and, of these sums, how much was spent on travel by air.

My Department spent £79,000 on overseas travel, including subsistence allowances, in 1976. Of this sum, air travel accounted for about £40,000. The corresponding figures for the Sports Council for Scotland were £1,457 and £145.
