asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in the light of the difficulty caused by uncertainty as to the proposed construction of an M1-M11 link road to the consideration and solution of traffic problems on the A414, particularly at Stan-stead Abbotts, Pye Corner and Sawbridgeworth, he will expedite consideration of the position in regard to the link road with a view to an early decision either to fix a route or abandon the proposal.

The feasibility study for this proposal had to be updated, and the Department received the consultants' recommendations last month. My right hon. Friend will announce his conclusions on the proposal as soon as possible.
