asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether the funds presently available for promoting tourism in development areas can be made available to provide low interest loans in other areas to help hoteliers meet the long-term expenditure necessitated to comply with the Fire Precautions Act.

No. Funds may be made available under the Development of Tourism Act 1969 for the purpose of encouraging the provision and improvement of tourist amenities and facilities, but these funds are not available to hoteliers to fulfil their statutory obligations under the Fire Precautions Act 1971.
