asked the Secretary of State for Industry when he expects a decision from the European Commission on the Government's scheme to aid instrumentation and automation equipment; and whether he will make a statement on the stage that consultations on the scheme have now reached.

The European Commission is now examining comments submitted by some member States and other interested parties. Her Majesty's Government will make every effort to expedite a final decision.
