asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money was spent on overseas travel by his Department, by the Sports Council, and by the Countryside Commission, respectively, during the latest year for which figures are available: and, of these sums, how much was spent on travel by air.

The amount spent on overseas travel in 1975–76 was as follows:

£
Department of the Environment*:438,000
Sports Council:1,000
Countryside Commission:80
Separate details of expenditure on travel by air are not available.
*In 1975–76 the Department of the Environment included what is now the Department of Transport. The above figure covers both, but excludes, in the case of the Property Services Agency, expenditure for staff on tours of duty at overseas stations.
