asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the cost to public funds of paying social security benefits to British Leyland employees and their dependants involved in industrial disputes in 1976 and to date in 1977, respectively.

This information is not readily available because of the form in which records are kept. It is, however, estimated that some£5,000 was paid out to British Leyland strikers and their dependants in 1976 and £4,000 so far this year.
