asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the percentage of the defence budget represented by Service and civilian pensions, respectively, in the years 1970–71 to 1976–77.

Civil superannuation is generally excluded from the defence budget and currently forms part of Class XIV expenditure. The provision included in Defence Estimates for Service retired pay, pensions, etc., and for a minimal element of civilian pensions, mainly in respect of unestablished civilian locally engaged abroad, as a percentage of the total defence budget was as follows:
