asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will outline the calculations upon which proposed savings of £28 million are to be made as a result of the increases in tuition fees which she announced on 26th November 1976.

The estimated savings of £28 million, at 1975 survey prices, resulting from increases in tuition fees in 1977–78 were calculated as follows:
