asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many new primary schools were completed in Wales during each of the last five years; and how many are scheduled for each year until 1979.

New primary school completions in recent years have been as follows:

Financial YearNumber of Schools
1971–7223
1972–7320
1973–7420

Approval was given for 10 new primary schools to be started in 1976–77.Since local education authorities have discretion to decide what projects should be undertaken from within their block allocations for primary and secondary schools it is not possible at this stage to say how many new primary schools will be started in 1978–79 or later years.
