asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the annual cost in wages, upkeep and maintenance of (a) structure and (b) contents, heating and lighting, of the Wallace Collection the Tower of London, Victoria and Albert Museum, Ham House, the National Portrait Gallery and Edinburgh Castle.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the annual cost in wages, upkeep and maintenance of (a) structure and (b) contents, heating and lighting of each of the stately homes under the guardianship of the Department; and what is the income in each case for the last three years for which the figures are available;(2) what are the numbers of staff and what are the numbers of rooms open to the public in each of the stately homes under the guardianship of the Department.

The only buildings previously private residences now in the care of my Department in England which are comparable with stately homes are Audley End and Heveningham Hall. The information immediately available for Heveningham Hall is:
