asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government are prepared to provide Belize with a guarantee as to its security following independence.

Her Majesty's Government are engaged in negotiations in an attempt to reach a settlement which would enable Belize to proceed to speedy and secure independence. The precise nature of any post-independence arrangements would be a matter for discussion with the Belize Government at the appropriate time.
