asked the Secretary of State for Scotland by what amount expenditure on road maintenance for trunk roads in Scotland exceeded the projected figures during the six months ended 31st March 1977; and from which other heads of expenditure money was saved to make up any shortfall.

Additional expenditure of about £0·6 million on trunk road maintenance was met from savings on trunk road new construction.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from local authorities regarding exceptionally heavy expenditure on road maintenance during the six months ended 31st March 1977; and if he will make a statement.
