asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether the plans he is considering for the future of the power turbine manufacturing industry will require a contraction in employment; and, if so, to what extent the contraction may occur on Tyneside.

Future levels of employment in the power plant industry will depend to a large extent on the decisions taken on the measures proposed in the CPRS report. These are now under urgent consideration.
