Government Factories

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many Government factories are currently unoccupied; what was the date of their construction; and where they are located.

At 30th April 1977 the number of unoccupied Government factories in England was 109, including 40 terraced units i.e., small factory units contained in blocks of terraced factories. Their locations, and in the case of new advance factories, their dates of completion, are as follows:

    (2 ) (DC)=factories funded by the Development Commission.

    (3 ) 32 previously occupied factories, including three terraced units, are undergoing modernisation or renovation; 20, including one terraced unit, remain leased to tenants.

    By 31st March 1977, 24 million square feet of Government factory space in England was occupied by 439 tenants providing 83,681 jobs.
