asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he next intends to raise the level for improvement grant.

I have no proposals to raise the general maximum level of approved expense for house improvement grant at present.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the expenditure on improvement grants in Scotland at the last available year; and what part of this was accounted for in the Western Isles.

House improvement grants paid by local authorities in 1976 totalled £6·396 million, and of this £0·156 million was paid by the Western Isles authority.
