asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has read the article in the British Medical Journal dated 7th May entitled "Warning: smoking may damage your children's health"; and what is his policy with regard to its findings.

The chief aim of the Government's strategy is to discourage people from starting or continuing to smoke. The well-known risks that smoking by parents will damage the health of their children, both directly and by example, justifies further the initiatives the Government have taken and are taking in following that policy.
