asked the Secretary of State for Trade, following the petition from Whitton residents, what action he intends to take to reduce aircraft noise in Whitton.

We are continuing with the existing noise abatement measures but I do not intend to make any alteration to the Mole Valley routes this summer. Such alterations only involve shifting aircraft noise from one place to another. Later in the summer I shall let those concerned have our analysis of the proposals that have been put to us. I would stress, however, that the only real hope for a reduction in aircraft noise lies in the progressive introduction of quieter aircraft.
