asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many people he estimates are employed in firms supplying equipment to the Ministry of Defence.

We estimate that about 200,000 men are employed on the research and development and production work for the Ministry of Defence by firms in the defence industries. I regret that the information on numbers currently employed on civil work in defence industries is not available.
