asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he proposes to take to solve the shortage of eye treatment facilities in the Birmingham area.

The Birmingham Area Health Authority (Teaching) hopes to open a new eye unit at East Birmingham Hospital and extend the unit at Selly Oak Hospital this year, giving 45 additional beds. The Authority is still considering the rĂ´le of the Birmingham Eye Hospital.
