asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in view of public concern about the action of local planning authorities where they override existing restrictive covenants when approving proposals for high density housing developments amidst old established low-density developments where the land has been acquired by negotiation, what advice he can give to local authorities on this matter.

The obtaining of planning permission does not override any restrictive covenants in force. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind perhaps he will write to me about it.
