asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many circulars affecting local government were sent out by his Department in each of the last 10 years.

Departmental circulars cover a wide range of local government matters. The total numbers of circulars issued are as follows:—

NOTE: The figures relate to circulars issued until November 1970 by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and then subsequently by the Department of the Environment. In November 1976 the transport functions then exercised by the Department of the Environment were transferred to the Department of Transport.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many statutes were passed adding to the then duties and powers of local government in each of the past 10 years; and if he will list them.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many statutory instruments were passed adding to or changing the powers and duties of local authorities in each of the past 10 years.
