asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will list the groups of public sector employees in whose pay settlements his Department is involved; whether those settlements are at national or local level; which of those settlements are usually influenced by the findings of the Pay Research Unit, and how; and what was the percentage increase in the earnings of each group in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

My Department is involved in the pay settlements of the following groups:

Settlements are at national level; neither is influenced by the findings of the Pay Research Unit.

In addition my Department is involved in the pay settlements for the Immigration Appeals Adjudicators and the staff of the following statutory bodies:

  • Equal Opportunities Commission
  • Commission for Racial Equality
  • Community Relations Commission
  • Gaming Board for Great Britain
  • Police Complaints Board
  • Race Relations Board

In all cases, settlements are at national level; the salaries are based on Civil Service salaries and the staff involved received the same percentage increases as the Civil Service and to that extent the settlements were influenced by the findings of the Pay Research Unit.
