asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what effect he estimates that the sale of council houses is having on housing revenue accounts, and the ratepayers in general; and if he will make a statement.

The financial effects of council house sales will vary from area to area. The Government's general views on council house sales are expressed in the Green Paper on Housing Policy which was published yesterday.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a circular warning councils which sell their houses that councillors may be individually liable to meet any loss to public funds.
