asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what further action he proposes to take to encourage work in the construction industry in the special development areas.

The construction industry in the special development areas benefits from the substantial grants available for investment in industrial buildings and from the Government's advance factory programme. Some of the areas will also benefit from the additional £100 million allocated for construction work in the inner cities and from the extra £30 million provided for public sector house improvements.
