Mr. Arthur Lewis
asked the Minister for the Civil Service why only the top paid civil servants are entitled to the tax-free use of cars and drivers to take them to and from their offices and the railway stations; and whether he will extend tax-free transport facilities to all civil servants on the same basis as First Permanent Secretaries.
Mr. Charles R. Morris
The provision of this facility is restricted to the minimum number essential for the furtherance of public business. General practice in commerce and industry would not justify its extension to all civil servants.
