asked the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects to answer letters from the hon. Member for Maidstone concerning the personal affairs of Mr. J. G. A. Thorn and the commutation of part of his pension.

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence for the Army is making inquiries into the points raised in the hon. Member's letters of 24th and 28th November 1977 and, having regard to the urgency of Mr. Thorn's application for commutation, hopes to be able to reply within the next few days.
