asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he is yet in a position to report on the work of the group representative of the inshore fishing industry which was set up to review the operation of the Fishing Vessel Safety Rules.

The Fishing Industry Safety Group has recently submitted an interim report, and I have arranged for copies to be placed in the Library. The group, which remains in being, has done some valuable work, and I would particularly endorse its recommendation that fishing vessels should now come forward for survey as required by the rules.
