asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will make a statement about the progress of the work being undertaken on behalf of her Department by the National Foundation for Educational Research into the integration of handicapped children into selected ordinary schools.

This NFER project started in September and will run for three years. A steering committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of Professor R. Gulliford, of Birmingham University. The project team is currentlly defining the scope of the investigation and the detailed methods to be followed, in the light of advice from the steering committee and discussion with participating authorities.
