asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average subsidy per council house; and what is the average subsidy in the form of tax relief for owner-occupiers.

Direct comparisons are very difficult and potentially misleading, but the relevant figures for England in 1977–78 on the basis of the latest estimates are:
