asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement about the Town and Country Planning General Development (Amendment) Order 1977.

I am arranging for the order to be withdrawn. The Government will shortly be presenting to Parliament the response to the Eighth Report of the Expenditure Committee: Planning Procedures. I intend to consider further the provisions of the general development order in the light of reactions to that response.
