Mr. Nicholas Winterton
asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people lost their jobs in the textile industry during the last 12 months.
Mr. Golding
No records are kept of all those leaving the textile industry, but I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that it was notified of 12,921 redundancies as being due to occur in textiles firms in the 12 months to March 1978.
