asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the basic container allowance paid in the years 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1977; and what was the average actual cost over half-ounce glass tablet bottles and 100 ml and 500 ml glass medicine bottles in the same years.

The container allowance paid for every prescription—except a "bulk" or oxygen prescription—dispensed by chemists was as follows:
