asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has read the letter to his Department from the Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee of the Isle of Wight County Council about road maintenance dated 17th April 1977; and what action he proposes taking upon its contents.

I am sending the hon. Member a copy of my reply, in which I have suggested a meeting between officials of this Department and the county council to discuss the issues raised in the chairman's letter.
