The overall effect of these qualifications is likely to mean an over-estimate of the number of tax paying FIS families.The latest available estimate of take-up based on a DHSS analysis of the family expenditure survey, is for 1975 when 60,000 families—about three-quarters of those eligible—were receiving the benefit.
