asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the latest estimate of gas reserves in the Irish Sea.

As the discovery in block 110/2 has not yet been fully appraised, no firm estimates of these reserves have yet been made. In the light of present knowledge I have no reason to dissent from the figure of 2 trillion to 3 trillion cubic feet recently quoted by the chairman of the British Gas Corporation.
