asked the Secretary of State for Industry, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Coventry, South-West on 25th July, stating that planning agreements will provide a securer and more coherent basis than has existed in the past for ensuring that Government financial assistance is deployed where it will be most effectively used, if he will list those instances in which planning agreements have been used to ensure effective use of Government financial assistance.

As envisaged in the White Paper, the effective deployment of Government financial assistance is a consideration in planning agreement discussions with companies. Details of such discussions remain confidential between the Government and companies concerned.
