asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his estimate of the number of Europeans and Africans in Rhodesia who are in each case (a) British citizens and (b) entitled to move to Great Britain due to their family relationships with British citizens.

We do not maintain statistics of United Kingdom passport holders in Rhodesia. We estimate however that there are about 80,000 citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies resident there, and a further 75,000 persons who are eligible to claim the right of abode in the United Kingdom.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what detailed estimates he has made of people now living in Rhodesia at present entitled to enter the United Kingdom.

We have no way of ascertaining the number of people resident in Rhodesia who are entitled to enter the United Kingdom, but we estimate that about 155,000 residents of Rhodesia are eligible to claim the right of abode in the United Kingdom.
