asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many sufferers from multiple sclerosis there are currently known to be in the United Kingdom.

Studies undertaken indicate a total of about 40,000 sufferers in the United Kingdom. There is no central register or record of such patients so that no more precise total can be given.
