asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, pursuant to his reply, Official Report, 11th July columns 517–18, he will list the cumulative increase and the average annual rate of increase in national productivity, as measured on the same basis as his previous reply, for the following periods (a) 1970 second quarter to 1973 fourth quarter and (b) 1973 fourth quarter to 1977 fourth quarter.
Pursuant to the answer I gave on 11th July, the comparisons requested are given below:October 1951, between November 1951 and September 1964, between October 1964 and May 1970, between June 1970 and February 1974, and between March 1974 and the latest date for which figures are available.
I regret that in the time available it has not been possible to provide the information requested. I shall write to the hon. Member.

These figures update previous Answers to the hon Member on 18 July 1977 (Cols 388–390) and 5 December 1977 (Cols 567–568). As in those Answers, the figures of prices and earnings are for April at the begininng of each financial year. Further details of the calculations are given in the Notes to those Replies.
The figures for families with children are affected by the replacement from 1977/78 of child tax allowances by non-taxable child benefit.
