asked the Attorney-General when he will reply to the hon. Member for Wirral's letter to him of 11th July on Leslie Ronald Barham; and whether he is satisfied with the length of time taken over the hearing of applications for leave to appeal in criminal cases where application has also been made for bail.

My noble Friend the Lord Chancellor received the letter only on 20th July and replied to the hon. Member on 1st August, explaining the position with regard to the length of time taken in hearing applications for leave to appeal.
