asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the duty-free concessionary allowances for British subjects returning to Great Britain from countries outside the EEC was last reviewed; and, in view of the fact that the present allowances are inadequate, if he will announce an immediate increase so that those returning from holiday in the summer can benefit accordingly.

These allowances were set in 1973 in accordance with EEC legislation. Certain aspects are under review, but there are no proposals for any immediate increase.
