asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to amend the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876, or a committee to inquire into the workings of the Act.

The Government have no immediate plans to introduce legislation. The working of the Act was reviewed by the Littlewood Committee in 1963–65 and is kept under review in the Department. Advice on its administration is also available from an independent advisory committee.
