asked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has made to the Japanese Government concerning the United Kingdom's preparedness to restrict imports.

I am confident that the Japanese Government are well aware that it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to consider the introduction of import controls if a particular sector is suffering from excessive imports causing market disruption.
