Mr. Gould
asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the deficit in trade with West Germany in manufactured goods so far in the current year: and what it would be expressed at an annual rate.
Mr. Meacher
Following is the information:
January—September 1978 | |
(a) Exports fob | £1,608 million |
(b) Imports cif | £2,966 million |
Crude deficit (A minus B) | £1,359 |
Source: United Kingdom Overseas Trade Statistics, SITC Sections 5–8 inclusive).
A continuation of trade at the overall rates applying in the period January to September would result in a crude deficit of £1,812 million over the year as a whole.
